Applicants can now apply to join the MM2H program without the use of an agent
People that are interested in joining the MM2H program can now apply directly themselves without the use of an authorised agent. The main benefit of doing this is you can avoid the initial fees charged by the instructed agent, however the use of an authorised MM2H agent does make the process simpler and avoids time consuming mistakes/ommissions on paperwork. The choice is now yours!
The process of joining the MM2H program includes a large amount of paperwork and includes visits to government departments that can be quite daunting, if you would like further information about how to apply yourself please visit the folloeing link:

Recent changes to the MM2H Program
In line with the Immigration Circular No. 6 of 2009, the following improvements have been made to the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme, with effect from 13 February 2009:

1. Qualified MM2H participants aged 50 and above with specialised skills and expertise that are required in the critical sectors of the economy, are allowed to work not more than 20 hours per week.
The approval to work part-time is subject to the following conditions:
a) the application is approved by the MM2H Special Committee;
b) the work contract needs to state that the MM2H participant is working part time and to attach the work schedule; and
c) total number of hours of week does not exceed 20 hours.

2. MM2H participants are allowed to invest and actively participate in business, subject to existing Government policies, regulations and guidelines which are in force for the relevant sectors.

3. Foreign spouses of Malaysian nationals are eligible to apply for MM2H, subject to the terms and conditions of the MM2H programme. Alternatively, they have the option to apply for the Spouse Programme.

4. The ten-year Social Visit Pass is extended to all Silver Hair and MM2H participants who were previously approved under the five-year Social Visit Pass, subject to the validity of their passports.

5. Employment Pass holders who wish to participate in the MM2H programme are exempted from the "cooling off period" on the condition that their application to participate in MM2H programme is submitted 3 months before the expiry of the Employment Pass.

6. ID-Cards will be issued to MM2H participants with permanent address in Malaysia. This is validated by submitting the Sales and Purchase Agreement or Tenancy Agreement in Malaysia.

7. Age limit of unmarried dependent children is raised from 18 years to 21 years. A declaration stating that the child is unmarried and all expenses during the stay in Malaysia will be borne by the principal participant of the MM2H program is required.

8. 'Dependants' include unmarried children aged 21 years and below, step-children, disabled children and parents.

What do people on the MM2H program think of living in Malaysia?
Whenever I speak to friends and family in the UK, Europe etc, they all seem to be moaning about the cost of living, property prices, worries about the economy.

This lead me to think how lucky am I (we are) being here?

The weather is (generally) good,
Food is cheap providing you don't eat at the flashy places. I know food has gone up over the past 6 months buts lets be realistic its not expensive in 'real terms'
Petrol is cheap!! when I tell friends and family about what we are paying they think I'm joking!!
Electricity, water etc is cheap
High quality hotel accomodation is cheap
Providing you shop around, most things are comparetively cheap!
Economic growth in Malaysia should still be in a positive
Borrowing costs are low and may become even lower in the next months - foreigners can get a mortgage of 70-75% of the purchase price
If you have Ringgits you are quite probably 'quids in' now
EVERY penny/cent in whatever currency you have here is now guaranteed by the government to 2010

The gripes people may have about living in a city (KL or Penang etc) are the same in most major cities of the world. every city has a groove and you just have to find it and follow it, once in it, you put with up with the hassles but offset them against all the benefits we have here

Property- now this is always a hot topic, in the last Asian Crisis, the best located properties (primarily landed) only dropped by 10% if at all, other areas suffered more, but when anyone buys they should at least do their homework and make sure that they buy a property that covers all bases. Prices here are cheap and in my opinion the 'right' properties won't drop much if at all even in a global slowdown. Admittedly there may be some forced selling at reduced prices but if anyone predicts that property prices will crash here, I just cannot see it happening. I realise that a comment such as this may open me to a lot of stick but its just my opinion, everyone is entitled to one!

Over the past year I have moaned about various things, things I didn't understand about the culture, in many respects I was a little naive and ignorant. Last night I friend of mine invited my wife and I to a private 'open house' in Country Heights. There must have been two hundred people there including other personalities government ministers and normal people like my wife and I. Everyone dropped the ego at the door - no facades and I was suprised at just how kind, generous and down to earth people were, there was no pretences, one-upmanship or showing off. Just nice people, looking out for each other, no drunks making a fool, no arguments, the children were all well behaved, Malays, Chinese, indians and two Brits all having a good time.

My thoughts/experiences may differ from others, buts thats all they are thoughts and experiences.
I just wanted to put something in writing for visitors to this site looking to find a better place to be, we have a lot to cheer about here and I felt that any new visitors would just read all the doom and gloom and think that things are the same world over - I believe that they are not.

Move to Malaysia, open an account with a Malaysian Bank in your local currency and keep your money safe!
With all the turmoil currently affecting the world, many of you would be wondering where is a good place to ride things out? Malaysia offers in our opinion one of the best options, lets look at why:
1. The cost of living is cheap, including food, property and petrol.
2. If you decide to purchase a property here and decide to sell, there is currently no Capital Gains Tax liability.
3. Bank Negara has issued a statement that from the 17th October 2008 all ringgit and foreign currency deposits placed with financial institutions regulated by Bank Negara will be fully guaranteed by the Government until December 2010.
So there you have it, cheap living costs, low property prices and you money will be guaranteed by the Malaysian government!!
